August 2002 - 08/01-05/2002

The rest of the trip and one day after

I didn't black out - that's the important thing to remember. And so this was the time available to us to rummage and pilfer JPN. Such a short amount of time. Oh the sorrow.

Day 1
You've already read about day one. Well, most of it... You see we left at 4 pm-ish EST and arrived at least 14 hours later. Meaning? Day 2 was pretty much shot traveling to JPN then to the hotel...

Day 2
Traveling for Dummies. Bring a toothbrush and tooth paste along with some books or magazines. Well a book will do, but more than one periodical is recommended. Also, don't forget to bring along your interest in SLEEP. This is extremely handy when traveling GREAT distances. Trust me on this one. After that, prepare for your:

  1. walk to the car
  2. drive to the airport
  3. walk to the plane
  4. the flight
  5. some walking on the plane to stretch your legs
  6. walk from the plane
  7. walk to immigration
  8. walk to your luggage
  9. walk to customs
  10. walk to the trains (lots of trains)
  11. more walking to the hotel

So in general I'd say be prepared for BLISTERS. Yup, LOTSA blisters. Personally this was one of the easiest flights to Japan. I was reading ENDOR'S SHADOW (http://www.hatrack.com/osc/books/shadow.shtml). Well, I read it as long as I could. You see I couldn't stop reading it. I didn't get tired like I normally do reading. The book held me till the end and it was an end worth reading. What an amazing book! A-MAZE-ING. The train ride to the hotel felt like it wasn't going to end at certain points. Everyone was EXHAUSTED and we all needed a shower desperately.

After the showers we all went to a local restaurant. Kaz was in charge of reading the Kanji as I'm still clueless to most Kanji. I can still read the prices though damnnit! = ) My favorite happening of the evening was the end of the meal when we were leaving. Of course the restaurant people were very very thankful - this is normal, but the rest of the crew kept saying thank you back to them. This kept causing a bouncing of thank you's from us to them, etc, etc, etc. Then, while Kazi Yorick and I walked away I turned around to see Patrick, Brian, and Alice all bent at the hip typing their shoes. Damnnit I wish I had a camera ready. Hillarious for me. Keep in mind shoes are removed EVERY TIME you go into and out of houses. I imagined this happening at every house, restaurant, place we were going to enter because their sho laces were too tight. Ahhh... culture shock. Next... BED

Day3
TOKYOTOKYOTOKYO!!! It was a day in TOKYO - old and new - at the Tokyo Historical Museum. Luckily we were accompanied by 3, wait, 4 other people. Yes we were a mob of 10 people wandering around Tokyo. The other 4 were friends/co-workers of Kazi-man. After an event filled day of learning about Tokyo we all found a couple food spots. The night ended with the ULTIMATE EXPERIENCE - KA-RA-O-KE (CAr-RAh-Oh-Kay) After the ultimate experience that is KARAOKE we went back to the hotel and slept'd - AKA BED

Day4
A good home cooked meal. I don't remember the last time I had a home cooked meal like this. The closest thing I can think of was probably the 15 course meal I had at the White House. Seriously, Kazi's mom and sister went nuts. The meals were amazing. I think we had 3 or 4 lunches and dinners served to us. A couple people took a short nap before we left to head back into Tokyo. = ) Tokyo is so cool.
